So I've been totally delinquent on updating, but only because I've been crazy busy. Except for this week, when I've been crazy lazy. Oops.
A couple of clean up items:
In regards to the last update, the event went amazingly well. The only complaint was about parking and I'm pretty sure we've solved that for next year (and, honestly, there's a lot a block away from the venue. It's not that bad.). Everyone had a great time, we only lost the intern once, only 25% of the walkie talkies died and they loved the squishy cows. Yay squishy cows!
Two weeks after the event, Joe and I ran away for the week to the beach. Some of my favorite memories of the week include:
The third day we were there, we went into Seaside to the arcade. Rumor had it that the arcade was closed, but lo and behold, it was open and, oh, the skeeball we played. Joe and I won a ridiculous amount of tickets (close to 1,000) and spent it on some quality items, including the kite that I'm flying (shaped like a dragon!). Between the arcade and the actual kite flying, Joe talked me into doing one of those Ye Olde Photo shoots, which he's only been asking me to do since our first trip to the beach in 2006. I don't have a scan of it, but I was a flapper and Joe was a gangster. Use your imagination.
Joe always complains that I don't wear enough layers when we go down to the sand at night and, hence, I never want to spend as much time as he does. So here I am in: a tank top, a long sleeve shirt, Joe's hooded sweatshirt, Joe's military weight coat, a pair of shorts, sweatpants, two pairs of socks, running shoes and all of the appropriate undergarments, of course. All of these layers made me look like a potato on legs (the coat really didn't help), but I was awfully warm.
We came back to the beach and both went back to work with day to day life, which means I've totally neglected taking photos the way that I'd like to. I really want to do project 360 - maybe I'll make it a new (fiscal) year resolution and start in July.
Oh, yes, that's right. Our fiscal year is ending and it's pledge collection time. Calling supporters to say, "Thank you so much for your generous gift, but it hasn't arrived yet and we really need it. So... when can we plan on having it?" is not always the most comfortable situation, but it's part of the job description.
More fun is the new event we're working on. It's in August, there's lots of booze involved, and there will also be carnival games, entertainers and maybe even a marching band. If you're going to be in Portland around August 16th, let me know and I'll fill you in. (Oh, I did have to make a MySpace page for the event. Man, am I old. MySpace is way too young and new-fangled for me. Those gosh darn kids.)
Also fun about the event? I met with one of my (many, fabulous) committee members this afternoon and not only does she rock and is she really excited about the event, but she brought me a giant bottle of alcohol. She is not the only committee member who brings me booze. Seriously, how lucky am I?
So that's my life lately. Patti is in town this weekend and ohmyGodIamsowayexcited. I believe we might have hair color time later tonight (hers, not mine), which means there will be lots of What Not to Wear and gossip. And who doesn't love that?
Also, it's That One and That Other One's anniversary this weekend. Let's hope MLD remembers.
