I am covered in varnish. And I am very proud of myself.
This week, the Museum is closed for sprucing up, installation of new exhibits and all that fun stuff. I painted and cleaned on Thursday and Friday as part of our department's "we do more than just raise money, yo" effort and thought that was it. But this morning, I got that call to wear grubbies yet again because we were going to be put to work. I managed to spend the morning at my desk and get through a good amount of work before being summoned downstairs to paint.
Oh, and paint I did. I painted walls and shelves and cubbies and all kinds of things. And then I got to varnish and seal a floor. All by myself, people. Do you know how proud you should be? For real, I was there, on the floor, with the paint brush and it looked good! I am so fix-it girl!
Once I was thoroughly covered in paint, I escape to watch the Vikings' game with Joe because I am, in fact, a very good girlfriend. You see, he was a very good boyfriend this weekend and told me I looked pretty in the purple dress (even though I probably didn't) and then tolerated my napping all day Sunday while he watched football and played with Wesley. So I hauled across town and watched fooball in a smokey, icky bar and loved it because I am just that awesome of a girlfriend. Have I mentioned how much I rock today?
And now I am in the middle of a very ambitious baking project, which I'm pretty sure is also going to rock. Sometimes I am a very good person.
Which reminds me - today is Kristen's birthday and, as she also rocks, yay Kristen! Maggie Lynn is her cat and, if you've ever checked out my 'hood, you'll know how the fabulousity of MLD.
Ooh, Amanda Bynes movie on the tv. I must watch this and pass out so I can run, run, run tomorrow morning. I did three miles the other day, people! It's crazy around here! Crazy!
(OhmyGod I might be kind of hyper, can you tell? What is wrong with me?)
Meet Wesley.
Wesley is a wonderful dog. He was raised on a farm in Idaho and is vacationing here with Joe for an undetermined amount of time. He likes long walks at the dog park, sleeping and wagging his tail until it bleeds. He also likes to drag me around until it feels like he's going to rip my arm right out of the socket.
Today, Joe and I took him for a walk around my apartment complex. These two evil cocker spaniels totally flipped out, with the barking and the pulling and, really, trying to get all up in his shit. Wesley, being the excellent dog that he is, paid no attention to them.
Until one of them managed to get out of his collar.
And then ran up and took a fucking chunk out of Wesley's fur. You might not be able to tell this from his picture, but Wesley is kind of a large dog. At least twice the size of the evil cocker spaniel of doom. But being the excellent dog that he is, he held still until the other dog's totally drunk and negligent owner got a hold on hiim.
This is what Wesley has to say about the whole thing:
"So I'm just gettin' my stroll on with my homies in the cut, Joe and Nicole right? Then these two little busta ass, mark ass tricks, try to roll up on me straight violatin'. One of them shark ass slobs takes a little bacon off my neck! So I had to lay the motherfuckin' pimp hand of God down on those sons and daughters of punk ass bitches and bastards. Plus their owner was drunk! Swear ta God, if I see 'em on the block, I'm a cut 'em. I aint got no thumbs but I'll still bust a cap in them bitches. Say word, son."
Thank you, Wesley.
And now, another animal friend of mine.
Penguins!
These are my penguins. I made them in the clay studio at work. A couple of weeks ago, Kristen and I needed a break from spreadsheets and forms and phone calls and all of that stuff, and took a break down in the studio. Since penguins are totally my power animal, I thought it was time I had some in miniature (I already have a big one that Joe won for me at the carnival - he lives on a shelf behind my desk (the penguin, not Joe)).
So I have a big penguin and a little penguin - who sits on his feet, but is not attached - hanging out on my desk. Many thanks to Kristen for talking me through my glazing "panic" and Lucas for rocking the clay studio. We thanked him with Fresca, which I think is always an excellent gift.
More clay creations to come. Glazing is next Wednesday. I already have something waiting. Clay studio = almost as good as shoe shopping therapy.
Mmm. Shoe shopping. Stupid being broke. It totally cramps my therapy style.
And now I have to watch Wesley nap. Because it is just that cute.
